Need advice on playing JJ out of position, early in tournament.
I primarily play $6.50 turbo S&Gs on pokerstars and find JJ to be the most difficult hand to play OOP, especially early in a tournament. Chances are very good that the flop will contain at least one over card. I have tried several different strategies for playing JJ in the SB, BB, and UTG and none, I think are anywhere near optimal. For example, in an unraised pot, early in the tournament , with multiple limpers, with JJ in the BB, should I raise, check, or push? I've had the best luck with pushing, however I cannot believe that that is the best play. Any advice would be appreciated.

chances are not in fact very good that the flop will contain at least one overcard.
just raise preflop, continuation bet most flops. |

Re: Need advice on playing JJ out of position, early in tournament.
It sounds as if you are seeing monsters under the bed constantly. If you raise PF UTG with JJ and you get one caller, 40ish% of the flops are going to hold all undercards (or around there, very quick math).
But when the flop comes Q-6-3 do you automatically think your opponent has AQ? KQ? A board with one overcard really isn't bad. You are still ahead of most callers ranges. So continuation bet and reevaluate if aggression is shown back at you. Just play it strong and you'll be fine. It's a good hand and if you think it is a tough hand, one that loses often for you, it probably will continue to be tough for you as you will start to assume you are behind on way too many flops. $6 turbo SnGs? Your opponents suck, play JJ like it's the best hand and you'll end up better off than not.

Re: Need advice on playing JJ out of position, early in tournament.
Try Pokertracker..........I used to think QQ was hard to play but I just replayed about 30 QQ hands and I played them mostly the same and I won about 90% of the time.
A healthy preflop raise and continuation of bets from there....the few times I got beat were pushes and got outdrawn by flushes or someone hit an A. Replay the hands and you look at JJ much differently. Also in 6.50 stars...........you will get lots and lots of callers that think anything suited is good in hope for a flush. they will call you down to the flop until they dont hit thier flush and fold losing half there stack! EASY MONEY! |

Early on, I play JJ for set value only unless it's a ragged low flop and no one else seems to like it.
