OP should start making his own brew. It is easy and cheaper. After you master brewing, you can move on to distilling, which is even more fun.

Barrilito from Mexico is some of the best beer I've ever had. You can only bring back a case at a time. My other favorites are Newcastle and Shiner Boch.

I had Hoegaarden recently, very good. But it was at one of those bars with like 40 beers on tap, so I'm not sure how easily you can find it.

Trust me, it's awesome. And 9% ABV.

In Belgium you would have gotten a ticket if you served anything but Duvel in a Duvel glass.

As an aside, La Fin Du Monde, which translates loosely to the end of the world tastes great.

Belgium beers are the best ldo

Stella Artois
Hoegaarden
Duvel
Leffe Blond
West-Vleteren (but very hard to get because they only sell it at the gates of the monistary
Delirium Tremens

Hoegaarden is great on a hot summer day. It's a white beer and it is really refreshing. But on a binge drinking night you obv. need to go with stella. Goes down really well and it stays down and never ever will you have a hangover. But it's probably on the expensive side in the US(?)

Although I do enjoy dark, rich stuff like Guiness Stout and Boddington's, I think I am most partial to the lighter beers.

I'm looking for mainly SMOOTHNESS, clean-taste, and drinkability. Not into the super-skunky stuff right now.

That reads, "I want a lager," so what you ended up getting is kind of weird. I would have recommended just about any Czech Pils, Staropramen is fine. Czech Pils are the definition of crisp, clean taste.

I wouldn't have recommended a hoppy APA because I assume by "super-skunky" you meant hoppy, and I wouldn't have recommended a big Belgian because you can only drink two of those before getting a little loopy.

A hefe - the Weihenstephaner mentioned is my favorite - would be good on the lighter, less hoppy counts, but its got a bit of the fruit flavor you seem to be wanting to get away from.

Whoa you know your stuff. You're exactly right. I wanted some smooth [censored], but I ended up with the dark, super-skunky stuff (Nocturnum and Three Philosophers).

Honestly though, it was good beer nonetheless. Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

Tonight I went out to my closest liquor store looking for a 24 of Pilsner Urquell, but they didn't have any.

So, par some people's request, I am chilling with a couple pints of FAT TIRE right now, and this stuff isn't too bad either.

[/ QUOTE ]

Whoops, that was my bad. I meant to specify the Tremens over the nocturnum (got the names confused). The Tremens is the lighter, smoother beer.

Bell's Oberon if you can get it. Dos Equis for a crisp smooth clean taste.

If you can, find one that comes in a dark bottle, not green or clear. Even something out of a can would be better than a green or clear bottle.
