Re: Property: What Can You Buy For $500,000?
[ QUOTE ]
You could never get something this nice in Vancouver for those prices. minimum 1 - 1.2M for that. [/ QUOTE ] 20-30 mins can be considered to be the same as living in one of the burbs. There are comparable homes on the same price range if you check out the Port Coquitlam area and specifically Westwood Plateau. |

Re: Property: What Can You Buy For $500,000?
port coquitlam is 45 minutes from downtown with NO TRAFFIC. during rush hour, it's 1.5 hours minimum. yes, you can buy a big house in langley or maple ridge for half a million, but this is like saying you can get a house in manhattan for 500k, it'll just be in philadelphia.

Re: Property: What Can You Buy For $500,000?
[ QUOTE ]
I'm just kind of curious for anyone else that lives in an area with a lot of new construction. In Northern Virginia it is VERY VERY common for a house to have a brick front, and vinyl siding on the other three sides of the house. Are there any other areas that do this? I think this is so ugly, and just looks like crap, but for some reason builders around here have been doing it for the last 10-15 years or so. [/ QUOTE ] Wisconsin does it too, and it's junk. Talk about being a poser... |

http://www.cambodiaestate.com/flat.asp Look at these prices in Cambodia. [/ QUOTE ] Those prices look insanely high for Cambodia. I would think if you were a local you'd be paying half that or less. I mean "Annual average per capita income is estimated at no more than $290" Seems like locals should be able to buy houses for around $10k , and you should be able to get a Western comfort level place for like $50k. Generally home prices are around 5-10 years of average salary. |

Re: Property: What Can You Buy For $500,000?
Beautiful, yeah in some places. But cheap? Think you're looking in the wrong place. $500k would get you like a 1000sqft decent appartment (but nothing fancy) in a nice neighbourhood on the outskirts of Oslo or 750sqft downtown. Add highest living costs (esp. food&drink) in the world and you're not in too great shape.
Other Scandinavian capital cities are similar in house pricing with living costs a tad lower. If you want to live in the countryside then yes, housing is cheap (down to maybe 20-30% of Oslo prices), but dunno if you really want to live there.. [ QUOTE ] So, seriously as a US citizen can I buy a house somewhere in Scandinavia and live there? It looks beautiful and cheap. I know it gets cold but it can't be worse than Montana or something. Oh this thread is so depressing. Hove, UK $500,000 = 1 1/2 Bedrooms, horrible flat. Average house price = 9 x average salary |
