I have absolutely no idea about the publishing industry, so please tell me how exactly one could go about putting a book(I'm guessing thats where you're saying the money would come from) together and getting it published? I think I could easily come up with 1000.

Tim Wakefield has started 23 games this year getting a decision in all of them (13-10). If the season ended today, it would be the most games pitched getting a decision every game since 1942 (Lum Harris 26)

Gaylord Perry had a decision in all 40 of his starts in 1972. In his 1 relief appearance he got a save.

Richie Sexson is batting .206 for the season as of today. Pretty cool considering 206 is Seattle's area code but totally ridic that we paid him so much for .206 performance. Honestly, how much lower does he have to go to get benched?

I think you should start Icy Pots Publishing.

But, yeah, I'm sure the market is there. Especially if the book was marketed right. Kind of like a Ripley's Believe It or Not of sports.

The stat is interesting. Payton is the most statistically prolific QB of our generation, especially WRT TD passes, and it is borderline ironic that his first TD was to another team.

This is something I've wondered about. What is the highest % that a record holder has over the person (or team, whatever) that holds 2nd place in that particular category? In the 1983-4 season, Gretzky totaled 205 points, 63% higher than Paul Coffey (126) in 2nd place.

For his career, Gretzky finished with 1,963 career assists, 57% more than the 2nd place player (Ron Francis with 1,249). Off the top of my head, the only other career record that comes close is double plays by a 3rd baseman. Brooks Robinson had 618, which is 56.4% higher than Ron Santo's 395.

Does anybody know any records that beat, or approach, those?

There are 69 African Americans playing in Major League Baseball.

A list compiled by ESPN. com revealed that 69 out of 750 active players (not including the disabled list) on opening day this year were American blacks. Neither Houston nor Atlanta – cities that are 25 and 61 percent black, respectively – had a single American black.
