I'm guessing you're referring to "Tourneys > Private" section of Pokerstars.

If you have over like 300 or so VPPs on Pokerstars you can create private matches in that section of the site.

That is what those are and you cannot enter them unless you have been told the password.

Sometimes sites hold freerolls on there for site members (some sites are pay only so you'd have to pay to be a member). There are also freerolls for foreign players.

No one should be telling people the passwords to these tourneys unless they're authorized to have them. This could easily result in these tourneys no longer existing.
