Goofball why would we c/r the flop on a somewhat ragged board with A9? Wouldn't this just fold out the Jx, or x5, or a worse A? And get re-raised by the better A? I would want those with worse hands to continue to pad the pot to make up for the times I lose the kicker war.

I agree. I think this is a great situation to c/r the flop. It makes the hand much easier to play and frequently gets it HU (depending on the position of the bettor). The c/r also insures you're leading the turn and not giving a free card in the event both guys call the flop.

like doc said, it makes the hand easier to play. Also if it goes bet-r-3 to you or something you can just fold. Also People dont' fold Jacks and they probably dont' fold fives and they don't fold worse Aces. C'mon, those all make pairs!

I typically will just fold the turn here. There are no draws, so you are up against at least one made hand and have no kicker. CR the flop if you think that you can, otherwise fine as played.

Since you think MP is a decent player at this level, think of it like this - why would you raise there forcing two cold to the rest of the field? I would be protecting second or third pair with a draw or a mid pocket pair if I thought everyone whiffed. Also I might raise A with a weak kicker to try to get to showdown cheaply. I see guys do this in my 6/12 game regularly. If you know who they are you learn to 3 bet the flop or keep betting into them on safe turns. It's all about the reads...
