Re: Does anyone actually like their baseball manager?

Plus, he's had the midas touch when he's gone against the numbers, especially in the '04 postseason. [/ QUOTE ] Examples? |

Re: Does anyone actually like their baseball manager?
i like tito but i'm not crazy about his bullpen and lineup decisions. he likes to rest guys right after they break out of a slump a lot, it seems. and lugo leading the team in ABs is sort of a crime. he also leans too heavily on his favorite relievers (but i think a lot of managers do that). when okajima's arm falls off in the middle of the ALCS i hope someone kicks tito in the nuts. otherwise he's fine.

Re: Does anyone actually like their baseball manager?
Bobby Cox bullpen mistake #108929283 today, almost costs the Braves' again. Just wow. You have the best reliever in the NL(or I can't think of a better one) in Peter Moylan, and you pull him to put in one of the worst because Wickman can't go in the 9th. The guy can pitch long-inning relief and you can't leave him out there for 2 innings.

Re: Does anyone actually like their baseball manager?
[ QUOTE ]
Braves fans hate Cox because he is a terrible manager. He is revered by everyone else because the Braves win and thats all they look at. Torre is a [censored] manager too. There is no question in my mind the best manager in baseball would be Billy Beane but unfortunately he is a GM. [/ QUOTE ] Wow. Billy Beane may be a very good GM (up for debate), but I doubt the players would respond to his arrogant personality as a manager. I think a lot of us overlook things a manager might do other than make the right in-game calls. Cox may be terrible at this, but this is only one part of their job. It would be naive to think otherwise. |

Re: Does anyone actually like their baseball manager?
Much like Schuerholz, he benefited from a group of healthy young pitchers. (Zito, Mulder, and Hudson). I agree with his offensive philosophy, but that is not where most of his success has come from.

How many championships does Beane have again?

How many championships does Beane have again? [/ QUOTE ] Poor argument; playoffs are not an accurate indicator of the best team during the season. |

Re: Does anyone actually like their baseball manager?
Tigers fans seem to like Leyland. A distinct minority doesn't because of his stubborness in sticking with, among others, Todd Jones and Jason Grilli (who has done an amazing thing in doing so poorly he's gotten me to stop worrying about Jones). He also does some weird strategic things, such as having Polanco (who bats about .340) bunt with runners on first and second and no one out. If Neifi's up, sure, bunt, but you're facing a potential huge inning with the heart of your order coming up and 2 on; don't concede an out.
