Default Borg 5/10 (Limit)

Went to the Borg on Sunday afternoon for about 5 hours. First time since the switch to 5/10 from 6/12. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Game was a LOT better (contrary to conventional thinking about the 1 chip/2 chip games.

I think there were only 2 chops the whole time I was there. Contrast that with 6/12 that tended to have a couple chops an orbit most days. Most pots were 5-6 ways to the flop, even for a raise. Nice and loose.

Game got a little short for a bit, but folks cycled in a little quicker than they tended to at the 6/12. I booked a little win, too.

Good move, Borg.

I'm curious to try the 5/10, I occasionally played 6/12 .

Now if they would only spread a 5/10 HOSE game....

Maybe this is a newb question, but I feel like I am missing something here. What exactly is the big deal with the switch from 6/12 to 5/10? They are basically the same limits. Why did people think this was such a big change?

Most limit games use a 2 chip/4 chip or 3 chip/6 chip structure; for example, 2/4 played with $1 chips uses a 2 chip/4 chip structure, meaning small bets are 2 chips and large bets are 4 chips. 5/10 is played with $5 chips; as such, it has a 1 chip/2 chip structure and should result in pots containing especially few chips.

Most players decry (and therefore, most casinos avoid) 1 chip/2 chip structures, on the theory that they will result in tight games. The theory goes that games that produce physically larger pots encourage looser and more aggressive action. Since the pot feels bigger, players perceive it as though it actually contains more money.

Part of the reason 6/12 didn't work as well in AC as in other places is that, legally, casinos in AC cannot produce $2 chips. Usually, 6/12 is a 3 chip/6 chip game played with $2 chips. At the Borgata, it was played with a cumbersome mix of $1 and $5 chips.
