Re: book reading order
I really think you should focus on either cash games OR SNGs. Will you play multi-table tournaments as well? SNGs and tournaments have some things in common (as distinct from cash games), but they are some definite differences as well.
You will have to decide what you have the most fun playing. I like the idea of reading Getting Started first. Play some cash games, then read Largay, then play some cash games, then read PNL, then play some more cash games. At this point, or earlier, you'll go through some slumps and some frustration. That's the time to add "The Poker Mindset" to your reading list. After all this, start thinking about tournament or SNG play. Read HOH V1 first, for either. After that, read HOH V2 if you want to play tournaments, or Moshman if you want to play SNGs. If you go with tournaments, add the Full Tilt guide, and then The Poker Tournament Formula. |

Re: book reading order
Your list is jumbled. I'll try to help sort it out for you:
Harrington's books are geared towards tournaments, and you made no mention of playing them. That being said, much of the advice in HOH1 can be used for deep stacked cash games, and I'd recommend reading it. I'd hold off on the other 2 until (if) you start playing tournaments. The Full Tilt Strategy guide is also only for tournament play, skip that for now as well. Angel Largay’s book is geared toward low limit live play...As table games are opening up around me soon it's on my list to read but I think you can skip it for awhile. I have never and will never read a book by Phil Gordon. If anyone here is a fan, they can help you with that. You should not read No Limit Hold 'Em Theory and Practice until after you have read Theory Of Poker several times and have a good grasp of it. I made this mistake and paid dearly. I can elaborate further if you'd like, feel free to PM me. I am one of the 3 people in this forum who have not read Professional No Lit, but from what I can tell it simplifies alot of Sklansky's ideas into easier to read format, and supplies lots of other new (and good) advice as well. So, I'd say: 1. Getting Started in Hold 'Em 2. HOH Vol 1 3. Professional No-Limit Hold 'em 4. TOP 5. NLHTAP I know nothing of SnG’s, maybe someone else can help you there. |

I don't think reading TOP is necessary, and it's a boring book.

Re: book reading order
I have 10 of your 12.
FWIW I recommend reading them in the following order Getting Started in Holdem by Ed Miller Texas Holdem Odds and Probabilities by Hilge Theory of Poker, by David Sklansky Harrington On Hold Em vol 1 Little Green Book, by Gordon No-Limit Texas Hold'em: A Complete Course Harrington on Hold Em vol 2 Harrington on Hold Em vol 3 No Limit Hold Em: Theory and Practice Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume I That's a whole lot of reading you've got lined up. Remember to play some poker as well, post hands, and read a ton of stuff on this forum. Good Luck. |

[/ QUOTE ] That's because as I stated I've never read PNL...I'm just going by the review thread. It's on my list. As for the Theory of Poker question, some) of the ideas in NLHTAP are expanding upon ideas in TOP an applying them strictly to No Limit. IIRC it even states this in the book. Also, IMO you need to have a full grasp of the concepts described in TOP to fully understand the material in NLHTAP. |

Re: book reading order
I would always start with TOP.
Some of the ideas presented might not be clear at first, but as you progress through the other books, these ideas will be clarified. It´s a matter of taste, but I like to study the framework before I get into the specifics. The rest of the order seems pretty standard. |

I would always start with TOP. [/ QUOTE ] Sorry but I can't agree with this. If the OP is planning on playing limit then fair enough but applying some of the concepts from TOP into no limit could be a disaster. I'm certainly not suggesting that TOP shouldn't be read. I just feel that one should get a decent understanding of NL before reading the book. That way he will be able to work out for himself what applies in NL and what doesn't. |
