I think we are ahead of his range and I wouldn't give him credit for a flush here -- I am value/block betting the river. But i think you played it fine

I wouldnt give him credit for a flush either on this board ...

So we can safely say we don't need to worry about a flush. I think we're ahead and I feel kinda stupid I didn't value bet this river.

Cheers for your input guys

I would never raise A8o in SB.

Ok, I'm getting a little worried about my SB raise now. Call me ignorant but is it really THAT bad to raise from SB? Button has called, but that could mean anything...just a call in position.

A raise could win the pot right there but surely I'm ahead of the button a lot of the time? I know A8o OOP is bad but given the situation is it still that bad?

Just trying to learn...feel free to rip me apart

The hand is just not strong enough to overcome the positional gap. Unless its premium, position almost always > hole cards. And its not only important to get position on your opponent, its also important not give it to him.

Bet river. By checking you allow him to check all his marginal holdings behind and bet for value his strong hands. Which means you are never getting value when you are ahead.

Bet $20-$25 or more. Villain probably has a weak ace or worse and can't lay it down. Take him to value town!

If I am going to open here preflop, then I make it $2.75 to go. That's a 4bb open + 1bb for limper + an bit extra as we are OOP.

That said, I don't think I open here a lot. But if the game flow/player images warrant it, I suppose you could be right and get 2 folds often, which is an ok result. This is especially true if you open for more than $2. But overall meh, I wouldn't make it a standard play.
