Reads?
I really hate minraises cause they mean such completely different things for each person, and I haven't yet decided on a general rule for them. If the guy is bad I don't see how you can't get it all in here. It's tough when the only reasonable hands that beat you here are AK and AA. Maybe call and see what he does on the turn. I don't think I'm folding this without a good reason tho. |

Re: $16 TPGK in position L1
you called preflop, you hit your flop, time to go broke. the check/min raise looks like a strong hand but some unknown can do this with any ace. so at this point i think you are tiny favorite, but you have a 500 chips overlay so just get 'em in. dont be surpriesed to get called by 9s8s.

Re: $16 TPGK in position L1
Your preflop call is marginal at best...
I think you're in good shape after the flop. The check-raise indicates that he's definitely got something he likes...which, at a $16 tourney, probably means Ax. The fact that he checked with two spades on the table probably means he isn't very good...so I'd estimate his range to be much more than just AA and AK. I would suggest reraising him. |

Your preflop call is marginal at best... [/ QUOTE ] it's my understanding that this call in L1 is quite standard, someone tell me if i'm wrong. esp. since i'm on the button i like to see a cheap flop in position with the opportunity to bust an unknown. anyone else on the pre-flop smoothcall? |

Meh, I don't think a call against an unknown is bad, but I think a fold is fine too.

Re: $16 TPGK in position L1
I don't think that smooth-calling preflop is an awful play...just marginal. At 15/30 blinds, you have all the time in the world. No need to risk chips with anything other than a premium hand. I guess AQ is callable...although it's at the very bottom of that range IMO.
