Cold is good choice too.

Microwave is acceptable only if you first run water over the back of the slice to get it damp... the water keeps it from getting exceedingly rubbery. Also works for the oven too.

I don't understand the cold choice. If you like it cold so much better, why don't you just by a pizza, put it in the fridge, and eat it 5 hours later?

I go microwave to get it heated fast. Shrug.

Really depends on where it is from, some pizza just isn't that good cold. Its between oven and cold though, microwave is the worst choice by far.

we're talking about leftover pizza here. i don't prefer cold pizza over freshly cooked pizza that has just been delivered, but i sure as hell prefer it over reheated pizza

we're talking about leftover pizza here. i don't prefer cold pizza over freshly cooked pizza that has just been delivered, but i sure as hell prefer it over reheated pizza

I always microwave, but it matters where it's from some places like little ceasers taste so bad after their prime I just don't eat it.

Look at it this way:

Fresh pizza = Full value
1 day old pizza = 50% value
2 day old pizza = 33% value
3 days or older pizza = 0% value

Let's say a large pizza has 8 slices.

I usually can't eat a whole large in one sitting. However, often I'll eat all but 1 piece (7/8). The least I ever eat is 5 slices, leaving 3 over.

Now, let's look at leftovers. Since I'd say I average 2 slices left over per pizza, that means I'm losing 25% value. I eat the leftovers after one day about 30% of the time, after 2 days about 10% of the time, and they go to waste about 60% of the time.

This gives my pizza value as follows:

((6/8) * 1.0) + ((2/8) * ((0.3 * 0.5) + (0.1 * 0.33))) =
0.75 + (0.25 * (0.15 + 0.033)) =
0.75 + (0.25 * (0.183)) =
0.75 + 0.046 = 0.796

This gives me 79.6% average value on the whole pizza: 75% value on what I eat, and 4.6% out of the final 25% that I leave over.

Now let's look at the cost of pizzas.

Let's assume that a large is 16 inches and a medium is 12 inches.

Using my pizza-pie-r-squared formula, that gives the following areas:

16 inch pizza = 3.14159 * (8*8) = 201 square inches
12 inch pizza = 3.14159 * (6*6) = 113 square inches

Let's assume that I can buy a medium for $8 and a large for $10.

In that case, with a large I am paying 4.98 cents per square inch, while with a medium I am paying 7.08 cents per square inch.

I can eat a full medium in one sitting, so I get 100% value out of it. This means it costs me 7.08 cents per square inch of medium pizza that I eat.

I already explained the large situation -- I get 79.6% value out of it in a typical case. Therefore, I need to recompute the value for it:

(201 square inches) * 79.6% = 166.4 square inches

$10.00/166.4 sq. inches = $0.0601/sq. in

That means it costs me 6.01 cents per square inch of a large pizza, when I factor in what gets wasted and/or left over.

Therefore, it is still smarter for me to buy a large, even if some gets left over and goes to waste.
