IMO a "cooler" is a situation where you went in with the worst hand and lost but you had no other choice but to do so (i.e. set over set) and a bad beat is where you went in with the best hand and got outdrawn.

It usually refers to the zeebo theorem. Which says "no one ever folds a full house."

I.e. If you have Ax, and the board is AAKQA, you can value bet alot because its not likely that someone is folding a full house
