Villain was playing 44/38/4.4. Previous to this hand I had raised twice, he had called me OOP on both occasions and check-raised me on ragged flops. I folded both hands.

I remember Brian Townsend saying once that he's sometimes willing to get it all-in preflop with hands as weak as TT against the right opponent. What would be a better line for hand 1 and do you call the river on hand 2?

In the first hand I feel that his river bet clearly polarizes his range between strong hands (a pair of kings or better) and bluffs. Since a 44/38 has a lot of air in his range I would call the river.

On the second hand I would probably fold preflop, but as played I would call the river. That said, if you do decide to fold it isn't necessarily terrible because he will observe this and bluff you with ever increasing frequency which should give you the opportunity to trap him for stacks.

Your play is way too passive post on both. your lines on both show weakness.
On 1, I expect him to cbet. His bet is the same as his preflop bet. Does he tend to do this? Its veeeery weak and id C/R him here to 150/160. The second J scares him too. But when you check the riv, he thinks his small pr is good.

On 2, a 5 is unlikely. I like a C/R on flop. If checked, im betting turn. If he raises, I might just fold. If called, im checking prob on riv and eval his bet. Could be a call if a fair bet. Id rather keep a smaller pot oop with a mediocre hand if my c/r doesnt work.

Since you're very uncomfortable on any board outside of one containing a four and moreover this chap is highly unlikely to give you a cheap showdown, this is just a really bad hand to hold out of position against an aggressive foe. Add to that the fact that his range is monstrously wide, which means you're not necessarily getting paid off should you flop a set, and I think we have a fairly clear fold.
