4k from company stock to which Van. Index Fund?
Our company was sold, and I went ahead and cashed out my shares as I will no longer be receiving a 15% discount each quarter. Have about 4k that I'm going to throw in an Van. Index fund. If you were going to invest today which would you choose? Not adverse to some risk ...
My ideas? Vanguard Balanced Index Fund Investor Shares (VBINX) Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Shares (VFINX) Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Shares (VFINX) Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund Investor Shares (VEXMX) Would any of these work for a long term investment with low fees? |

I may be completely missing something, but isnt it better to wait till you have over 10k to put stuff in vanguard? I seem to remember there beign fees on dollar amounts below 10k

Beastmaster, will this be in a taxable or tax-free account? Do you have other assets that this will supplement?

gull-
Not sure about the taxable or tax-free account? Are you talking IRA? I own a home, have a good chunk sitting in Emigrant and Cd's also have some other mutual funds that I bought awhile back before I knew about Vanguard and the lower index funds/fees. Wife and I have 401k and contribute enough for company match. Honestly, have too much sitting in sav and CD's and I'm probably too risk adverse for my age. |

Target Retirement funds are always good.

The Target Retirement funds are great if you're just investing in one fund. They are well diversified and they have cheap expense ratios. I would recommend those above the options you listed above. The funds you listed are less diversified.

Target retirement is probably best but after your first post I figured a minimum wage teenager and after your latest a 50+ with grown kids so wtf do I know. J |
