Tennis Matches Fixed?
Doesn't seem like there is a lot of discussion of tennis betting here, but I thought this was quite interesting in the wake of the NBA scandal.
http://sport.guardian.co.uk/tennis/story/0 Looks like Davydenko tanked the match, and people in the know bet heavily on his opponent. Seems to me that betting so much that the line became obviously unrealistic was a very stupid thing to do if that is indeed what happened. Will be interesting to see what the investigation uncovers. -- fixed your link -P |

Yep, this is a problem and it's going to blow up in someone's face soon I predict.

Re: Tennis Matches Fixed?
Fascinating. Is it really as obvious as this guy claims?
"It has become increasingly obvious recently that there are a significant number of 'fixed' tennis matches being played. It is obvious to anyone with some experience of the normal Betfair market behaviour and the appropriate odds for a tennis match that certain low-level ATP matches are being fixed, with corresponding irrational market patterns." |

Re: Tennis Matches Fixed?
The integrity of lesser tennis tourneys was a concern when I was offshore in 2001. This is nothing new. Many books who handle tennis action have added rules about making bets "no-action" if a player retires due to injury before, say, the end of the first set.
The only thing new about this story is that the book no-actioned a ton of bets after the match was complete, under circumstances that were not specifically spelled out in their rules. ...and don't let the wording of that last paragraph make you think that I disagree with how they handled it. |

Re: Tennis Matches Fixed?
If you see the prices of the match it's obvious it was fixed. The thing I can't believe is just how obvious they make it.

Re: Tennis Matches Fixed?
wait, so please tell what happened. There was 7 mil bet on the match, all against the underdog and the davydenko wins 1st set and then defaults because of a foot injury down 2-1 in the 3rd?
so was he is on the fix and took a dive to make some money or what? or did the betters just know he was injured before the match and thought he would default? because if davydenko is found to be taking a dive, wouldn't this be a serious thing? |

Re: Tennis Matches Fixed?
i think davydenko has been carrying a injury for a while and it is common knowledge so that is why the betting was as so but even still it seems a bit odd to me.
bets will be paid i think after an investigation by ATP. |
