Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (SPOILERS)

http://www.mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/1156 JKR webchat transcript. [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the link, I'd heard about this. There was a recent Boston Globe (I think) article where the writer said JKR should've made Snape the center of the series, as he faces much tougher moral dilemmas. Sigh... Severus Snape & the Falling Tree Branch. Severus Snape & the Exposed Underpants. Severus Snape & the Dark Arts Professorship Rejection Letter. Severus Snape & the Icky Snake Hickey. Not quite the same ring, IMO. |

I think there's a lot of hindsight bias going on. The guys saying it was 'blatantly obvious' that snape was good in the first 6 books, can you quote yourself saying that before DH came out? [/ QUOTE ] Not on here no, since I haven't discussed the books on here before. Do my dad and brother who read the books at the same time as me, I said it to them at the end of book 6 and all the way through book 7. Oh, I also knew who Kayser Soze was, knew Tyler Durden wasn't real and knew who shot JR long before any of these things were revealed |

Plus, the idea of Snape loving Lily pretty much common knowledge even before book 6. [/ QUOTE ] Hows that? |

[/ QUOTE ] All of Snape's criticism had to do about how Harry was like James, but he hardly mentioned Lily. A few people suspected that he was jealous of James for whatever reason. Plus, snape's pensieve was in OOTP, which showed the memory with Lily and James. |

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (SPOILERS)
It was wildly rumoured all over the internet that Snape was in love with Lily which served as his motivation for many things.

Re: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows discussion thread (SPOILERS)
Here's a bit of a nitty point:
If portraits can talk and interact with people, but photographs can't - why wouldn't every wizard/witch have their portait painted (or wanded, or however those magic folk do things)? So that when they die, their loved ones can keep talking to them. Actually, I don't get the whole portrait thing. Maybe it was mentioned in one of the books, but I don't remember. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't get the whole afterlife thing. I mean, what's so damn sad about dying when spirits come back to tell you it's no big deal? I'm not being sarcastic. This is something that really bothers me about the last book. Rowling never made clear in the previous books what happens to wizards and witches when they die, which leaves that element of darkness and fear and desolation hanging over Harry as he reflects on all the people who died to protect him. Then in book 7 she makes everything bright and happy by letting Harry in on it. It seems like a cop out. I'm drunk though so whatever. |
