Watched a 2 hour Stax Records special on PBS last night. Good stuff.

Bring it on Home - my favorite Sam Cooke. [/ QUOTE ] Great choice. Lou Rawls does a great job in the background on that one too. I also strongly recommend A Change Gonna Come This thread needs much more Otis Redding. Speaking of someone who died way before his time, he was killed at 26 in a plane crash. We missed out on some great, great music. I've Been Loving You These Arms of Mine That's How Strong My Love Is Try a Little Tenderness |

Solomon Burke is great, but I have problems finding much good stuff on YouTube to share. There is a ton of live stuff, but I prefer his studio work.

Not quite sure if this is classed as soul, but worth mentioning anyway -
Bobby Womack - Across 110th Street Man, Tarantino films have introduced me to some really great songs. |

Re: SOUL thread. give it to me.
Donny Hathaway, like Sam Cooke, died way too soon.
The Ghetto Jealous Guy The Staples Singers are generally considered more gospel but I think a lot of the stuff they did falls under the "soul" heading. Mavis still performs, I saw her a couple of years ago and she was awesome. Respect Yourself Let's Do It Again Also ElD mentioned Bill Withers, excellent choice. Imo his "Live at Carnegie Hall" record is a must have, one the best live albums of all time |
