Re: What do you pay for golf?
Place #1: Weekdays $21 , Weekends $23 (18H)
This place is nice. 5978y from the middle tees, and pretty challenging for a beginner such as myself. A fair bit of water, and lots of 45 degree dogleg holes with protection from water/trees/bunkers. 500y+ par 5s are also fun. Place #2: Weekdays $27 , Weekends $30 (18H) This place is good for practice but the course is really short. Definitely not close to regulation (3775y from the white tees), no par 5s and most par 4s are 350-380y. I have no idea why they charge so much, the course isn't even that good. Place #3: Weekdays $17, Weekends $19 (9H) Another short course. They don't even have a full 18 holes. The course is extremely short yet challenging for a newbie like me. There has to be at least 5 bunkers on each hole (most near the green, and some lining the fairways). Price is pretty lame considering it's only 9Hs. All of these are public places without a cart. Carts average around $18-25 extra for 18H I think, never really looked too closely. |

Re: What do you pay for golf?
I used to play for $3 a day (not round, I'd ofen get dropped off an walk 36 with a friend when we didn't have tournaments during the summer) at a local muni as a junior. Good 18 hole muni course designed by Donald Ross and we played it at about 6400 yards from the whites. Never gonna be another deal like that. Now I expect to pay about $40-75 depending on where I go.

in the ann arbor/detroit area the average price i pay for golf is about $40 (18wCart). i will admit most of these are the nicer public courses. you can find some twilight deals under $25 after 6pm, but you will be lucky to get in 9 holes as most of the courses are packed with leagues. the best deal i have found is links of novi (27hole course) which has weekend twilight starting at 3pm and for only $20!!! and it includes a cart. its actually a decent course. unfortunatly everybody and their mama is lined up to play. [/ QUOTE ] the best deal i have found in the detroit area is Rogell. It's at 7 mile and Berg rd. its pretty short, only 6000 from the tips, but i've played there 2 times a week this summer and i have yet to make a tee time, and i have never waited more than 20 minutes to tee off. Usually its park, pay, walk to the first tee and go. weekdays its 20 dollars for 18 w/ cart weekends 25 but on friday its $15 for 18 with cart, and on Tuesdays its 2 for 1, so bring a friend and its $12.50 for 18 w/ cart |

Re: What do you pay for golf?
westhoff,
Just saw this thread, I see you mentioned me, awwww. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Anyway, Phoenix is definitely the ridic capital of the world when it comes to price swings. A course like Troon North that goes for ~$240 in the winter can be had for like $75 now, maybe probably less on Mon-Thurs. That said, I never pay retail and our golf group's pain threshold is about $80 in high season (winter). It helps that a couple of friends have Troon Foursome passes which allow us to get on Troon Golf managed properties cheaply year-round. Also, Papago is a really kick-ass muni here in town that I'll play in the winter for not more than $40 w/cart. In addition to this, we have myriad hookups at nice courses around town where we generally only pay $0-30 or cart fee, which is nice. |
