update: got up this morning and the cat was gone. when i went to bed it was still up there which meant it had been up there at least 4 1/2 hours.

so in sum: thought it was a raccoon but it wasnt. thought it was dead but it wasnt. thought it was on electric wires but it wasnt. thought it was stuck up there for good (not really) but it wasnt.
