Default Pro V1 X-outs

What's the general opinion on x-out balls? I just got some Pro V1 x-outs for $30/dozen. I always thought the flaws were cosmetic but I guess there can theoretically be some functional flaws. Anyone have any opinions on how x-outs play compared to the standard ball?

I talked to a guy who worked for Titleist once, and he said the X-outs were just cosmetic. He even said that the factory doesn't make enough cosmetically flawed balls to meet the demand of people not willing to pay full price for non-X-outs, so they just put the X on perfectly good balls. I thought they were cheaper that 30/dozen though.

Nothing wrong with Titleist X-outs at tall.

Most X-outs are literally just a normal ProV1 that poor people can buy. The pro's all use these at the range for events and they are in perfect condition when they get them. It is true that they are illegal for use in USGA events, but all "X-Outs" are illegal just because there may be a blemish on the ball.

The illegality has nothing to do with a possible blemish on the ball. They aren't legal because they simply haven't and won't be submitted for inclusion on the approved ball list. Greg Norman was DQ'd some years back because he was playing a prototype Maxfli that hadn't been submitted for the approved ball list yet.

Technically, X-outs wouldn't be legal in any sort of tournament because the Rules of Golf apply there as well. Otherwise, one could simply tee up a Robinhood, or some other hot/British ball and go crazy without repercussion.

But to answer the OP's question, Pro V1 X-outs will suit your needs just fine, you won't be able to tell any playability difference.

Robinhoods, ha! Takes me back. What was the name of the ball that was slightly larger than regulation? Both came out around the same time IIRC. Maybe Jumbo or something like that.

Top Flight Magna?
I once played in a monday qualifier with a guy that played this ball, and I'd swear he just got it from the range!
He only lasted 9 holes before the officials gave him the hook, but he filled those 9 holes with memories I'll have forever!
My favorite was,
"We'll I would have been alot better off just keeping my mouth shut, huh?"
He had hacked his ball deep in the woods on a par 3. Then hit some miraculous punch out onto the green. After standing like a statue over his 30 ft. par putt, he raised up, looked at me and asked,
"so what do I do if I hit the wrong ball?"
