When I do the elliptical I dont hold the hand rails and move my arms myself. I also do the elliptical when I want to get in a low steady state workout while keeping my heart low. Its a good alternative to doing some incline walking.

Come on you bunch of Nancys - elliptical machines are for sorority girls.

Or for people rehabbing or with legitimately bad knees?

(Points to note on tone sticky)

Come on you bunch of Nancys - elliptical machines are for sorority girls. Get outside and go run. It is hands down the best cardio activity and IT ISN'T BAD FOR YOU OR YOUR JOINTS. It's hard because you're actually doing the work instead of letting some machine sling your arms and legs around for you. After a couple weeks you'll get used to it and it'll feel much more natural and smooth.

nancys.. lol

fwiw, it might not be bad for your joints, but there are people with bad knees who can't run on hard pavement.

Ok I have an elliptical question. I've tried using that machine a few times but when I do it always f-in kills like right above the knee. But when I jog or run all is good. Am I doing something wrong because from what I hear people are always "dude the elliptical is better for you, it eases the joints" yadda yadda yadda.

Jogging doesn't build up quads really, unless you go up hills, or mix sprints in. It's not bad at all for building up toughness and discipline, though, and is fantastic for releasing endorphins and working through the day's problems in peace. Often a huge mood booster.
