Default $33: 88 vs unknown

Hi,

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (6 handed) Hand History converter Courtesy of PokerZion.com

Hero (t3520)
UTG (t1690)
MP (t1810)
CO (t6470)
Button (t2930)
SB (t3580)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8c, 8d.
<font color="#CC3333">UTG raises to t600</font>, <font color="#666666">4 folds</font>, Hero calls t400.

Flop: (t1300) 5d, 7c, 9d <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
Hero bets [t2920] , UTG calls [t1090] .

Final Pot: t1300

I'm very unsure about my play here. Opponent played 30% of his hands and raised 16% over only 30 hands. I called because i thought there are some flops where i can be pretty confident that i am ahead. I made this donk flop bet because i thought it may look like a bluff to him and he may call wide because he has only 5bb left.
What would you do preflop, is this a push/fold decision? What about the postflop play?

UTG pot commits himself with this raise, so either push or fold pf, i'd shove because we are normally way ahead of an UTG raise (or push) from a shortstack.

Good hand - I find these situations tough too.

I don't see how we're "way ahead" of UTG's range. I think at best we're up against two overcards and often it's a higher pair, for exactly the reason empyrium mentioned - UTG is committed after his raise. I think UTG pushes any lower pairs to increase his FE.

With Hero's stack, I fold - no need to race here.

Definitely no need to race here. If UTG had 2000 chips or more, and had been active, I probably resteal here, since he isn't getting better than 2:1, though I usually fold since we're not close to bubble.
