It's not for fun. It should be. This move is for wankers.

What it seems to you and what it is are two different things.

I coached 7-8 yr olds in football. Obviously at that age punting will only gain you maybe 10 yards in field position. I put in a play I called the "hold it" play. Once at the line of scrimmage the quarterback would look confused, hold up both arms and yell out hold it. He would then start walking to the sideline as if there was timeout when in fact he was in motion. We would then snap the ball to the upback catching the other team napping.

I only used this play once in a 4th and forever situation. The kids loved it. The opposing coach just smiled and shook his head.

Maybe a bush league move but it was fun. IIRC Kurt Warner pulled this during a St Louis Rams game the next season.

These kinds of plays suck for 2 reasons:

1) They're lame as [censored]

2) They're dangerous as [censored]. If a defending player had known what was going on and had tackled that kid he would probably be in the hospital. The defending players know this and it puts them in a very lame situation. We'll it could be a trick play in which case I need to go tackle the guy or it may be a ligament problem in which case if I tackle the guy I'll have hurt him for no reason and probably get a penalty. These kind of plays weren't legal in any leagues I ever played in and I'm pretty happy about that.

lol

So you're saying the QB is completely content and unaware to the possibility that some defender might figure it out?

Also, i'm sure a defender who has figured it out would just hit stick the QB and injure him. Seems about right.

You guys are probably the same people that hated the statue of liberty play that Boise St. did in the bowl game.

I should clarify my stance, if the game is being played at any sort of decent level of competition than I'm all FOR trick plays, it's the other teams responsibility to be ready for them, they are part of the game.

I was just saying a play like this against 10 year olds is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. These kids barely understand the fundamentals so they clearly are not going to be ready for some obscure rule about a sideways snap being legal.
