Clarification of Hold\'em rules for split pairs
Hi,
I'm a bit confused on the rules of hold'em when there is a showdown with two players who both have the same split pair. Here is an example player 1 A6 Player 2 A9 Board: A X X X X I've played a game where the outcome was a split pot rather than the A9 winning even though both players only had a split pair of aces. Can someone explain this please. |

Re: Clarification of Hold\'em rules for split pairs
if 3 of the remaining cards are higher then both players 2nd hole card , then both have an identical hand
say the board is A K J T 2 so both have a pair of aces. now each player uses the remaining cards to make the best 5 card hand. the best hand is in this case AA KJT so the 9 vs 6 doesnt matter |

But...... with your example cards say the board was....
A K K 5 3 Then A9 would win (AAKK9) vs A6 (AAKK6) Best 5 cards. |

Re: Clarification of Hold\'em rules for split pairs
Thanks Guys I get the picture now, I've been playing mostly draw poker so it's taking time to get used to the rules of Hold'em.

Re: Clarification of Hold\'em rules for split pairs
The term 'split pairs' isn't a term used in holdem. Draw poker yes.

Re: Clarification of Hold\'em rules for split pairs
Isn't split pairs a term used in stud?
(8A)A = split aces where (8A) are hidden cards |

Re: Clarification of Hold\'em rules for split pairs
King Yao uses it in his book "Weighing the Odds in Hold Em Poker". I always thought it was a bit odd.
