Default Straight on single suit flop

0.50/1 5 handed

Folded to hero on the button. Hero, been playing a little loose, makes it $3 to go with A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Each with $100 behind. Small and Big blind call.

Flop comes Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

check, check, hero bets $8 into $9 pot.

small blind raises to $25. BB folds.

Hero's best action?

Insta shove and don't think twice. Villain could have two pair, 98, or a million different combo draws. Maybe even K9.

Raise more preflop. You have any reads on SB? Against most players I probably stack off. Either call flop and raise a/i any non-[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] or reraise flop a/i.

I check, non- [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] comes, he pushes for $62...

I think just calling here sucks. Aside from giving a free card, a diamond kills your action from all the two pair and lower straight combos he could have.

Then it gets checked down and I still win...lower variance?

The idea of pot control doesn't really apply this case above as you ain't deep enough for those considerations - you only have a psb left if you call the flop. And you sure aren't folding unless a 4th diamond appears.

I mean if he has no diamond and one comes on the turn then it might get checked down anyway

Dude the variance involved in a given play should have no bearing on your decision whatsoever. All that matters is what is most profitable.
