Default KK early in the Million

I posted this in the Million thread and got various responses. Would like to get some more discussion if possible.

Very early in the Million with no prior history with villian. Hadn't played enough hands for any sort of read.

Here are the posted responses.

Kramer - Play exactly the same.
Gobbo - Raise the turn.
Kassdog - Reraise flop.
ZBT - Raise FREAKING SOMEWHERE.

On the flop I felt like villian prob. had 9,x and wanted to see where he was. I didn't want to chase him by raising.

When he bets the turn I'm torn between whether I'm still ahead or maybe he has some weird 2 pair or trips. By repopping here he probably folds 9,x or i'm building a big pot when I'm behind.

Then when he 3 barrels the river I was lost. I would assume villian wouldn't 3 barrel 9,x in a $500 donkament??

I'm no expert, by *any* means...

But that flop is very draw-heavy. If it came all rainbow, I might just call and raise the turn on a safe card.

And to that extent, I think you got about as safe a card (other than an ace) you want on the turn. I probably push the turn more in case he's got like J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or something similar.

played pretty weak IMO. I think the debate here is whether you want to raise the flop or the turn so you're not calling him down either way ahead or way behind.

That being said, I raise the flop. He won't always fold a 9 here to a raise and you'll definately be getting value out of TT and maybe JJ if he is bad enough to just call from the blinds here with JJ. There is also a flush draw possibility and 56. It doesn't sound like you have any reads on the player either, which would help. This early in the sunday million i'm usually aiming to get all my chips in the middle with KK on this board.

I agree with above. I would've like to get my chips in with KK. I can see the smooth call on the flop but my style would have been to raise the flop. You certainly have to pound the turn when it bricked (theoretically).

I know the concern here is a flopped set. But this smells like Axhh to me or A9 and he's pounding tptk. And if you're worried about a set then raise the flop and find out where you are.

Yeah, it's a $500 tourny but it's still a donkament and there are many people who qualified for a lot less than $500.

Agreed. I had a guy do this to me with AJ on the J high flop yesterday so it's definitely possible for him to have A9 and 3 barrel. However, I think you def need to raise the flop or turn.

I don't mind the call on the flop at all, but I'd definitely raise the turn to ~3500 and gladly get it in here. Average Million Villain insta-shoves T9 over the turn raise.
