Found out yesterday that another person I know got a job dealing poker at Mountaineer. Dealers make $4 plus keep their own tips. Non-poker dealers pool tips.
He had to pay $350 to go to a dealing class in a WV university that is a 8 week course. Mountaineer hired a private organization to do interviews and the interviewer told him that the target date is labor day. I gather theres 3 different classes you can take at dealer's school. One was poker, one was blackjack and I believe bacarat and the final one was craps. Blackjack and poker classes are 8 weeks long and I heard craps was 10+ |

Here's a good link from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette:
Poker School It also states in the column that both Mountaineer and Wheeling Downs want to have poker starting on Sept. 1, the other games to follow about a month later. |

Is $350 a bargain price for a 4-6 week poker dealing class? What would it normally cost? Does this come w/ some kind of certification?

[ QUOTE ] This article says August for Mountaineer [/ QUOTE ] That's an old article. Sadly, it looks like November for us in WV: Sad News [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I saw that. Oh well, we've waited for decades in PA, waiting a few more months for nearby options in WV won't hurt. To put it in perspective, PA passed a law enabling slot machines (ughh) quite awhile ago, after 20 years of on-again/off-again debate - and it will still be multiple years until the lawsuits are resolved, and they're all up and running. So, WV had some bad luck and a minor setback, but that's nothing compared to outright PA-style incompetence, greed and corruption. Eight years from now, we'll still be debating poker in PA - looking for ways to set up trust funds for lobbyists' infants, and payola for all the politicians in the machine. That's just the way things are done in PA. |

[/ QUOTE ] It does, but if you already know how to deal I do not think you have to go. Mountaineer has the job lisitngs on their website, and lists the qualifications as : 1) Trained and/or experienced in all aspects of Poker. 2) Required to satisfactorily pass a gaming audition. Of course if you have never dealt before, you might want to take the class as they are filled up for the most part and all of those people are trying to get jobs. |
