Tough week ahead with the Phillies and Mets coming to town. Some really good matchups. Hoefully we can get Marquis some good run support on tuesday as he has been struggling as of late.

i believe this will be the toughest stretch the cubs have remaining on their schedule. if they can get through this week and then the next road trip without imploding, i really think it will be all over as far as the division goes. i believe mil. is playing the same two teams this week.

I'm not disagreing with the validity of your 2 trade rumors today. However, they both suck big time for the Cubs.

Sort of an off topic and pointless discussion, but my friend and I were having this debate the other day:

If Zambrano decided he was going to become a DH and focused entirely on batting, what kind of numbers do you think he would put up? He's hitting .291 this year, and he hit .300 in 2005. Last year he only hit .151, but he hit an impressive 6 homers in 73 at bats.

I assume pitchers don't spend nearly as much time on hitting as field players do and that getting 2 or 3 at bats every 5 games doesn't really let a player get in a groove. If he just focused on hitting, could he be a top tier DH?

Nah, he wouldn't have the plate discipline.

That was my first thought too, but I was looking at Rich Ankiel's hitting stats when he was pitching and his plate discipline is pretty [censored] too. Granted, it was a small sample size for Ankiel since he wasn't around too long, but he's obviously shown a lot of improvement with the way he's been crushing it in AAA. I never played baseball so I don't really know, but can plate discipline be improved drastically with more work (I assume Zambrano and his coaches don't worry too much about his plate discipline in his current situation)?

Yeah, I am just gonna close my eyes and pray till the deadline is over.

I really hope the griffey trade does not happen, because we all know everyone will say it's a great trade just because we acquire griffy.
