Re: Why players aren\'t given a pager when on the waiting list
The standard Qos list system includes the ability to send a text message to the player on the list when his seat is ready.
HOWEVER remember its not necessarilly in the best interest of the casino to get the poker player in his or her seat fast. Think about it.... the yield at a poker table isn't as high as the yield at a Blackjack table. |

Foxwoods has pagers. I've never used them, but they recently added them.

Re: Why players aren\'t given a pager when on the waiting list
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Just heard from a floorperson in the local casino that they can't give pagers to people on the waiting list because it would be considered enticing this person to gamble when they send him a message that they have a seat open and that could open them up to law suits. This is in the Netherlands by the way. Is this the case anywhere else? [/ QUOTE ] What are you talking about? I do get a pager when I'm on the waiting list (HC Holland). [/ QUOTE ] This is interesting. I assumed it would be the same in every Dutch casino. I guess it shouldn't have come as a surprise that it isn't as I have witnessed different rules being used in the casinos that haven't been offering poker for a long time. In which casino do you get the pager? My guess would be Amsterdam? It was in Groningen where they told me why they didn't use pagers. |

Re: Why players aren\'t given a pager when on the waiting list
TT - really? pretty idiotic.
I'm either going to have to stand around the rail doing nothing OR I'm just going to say, "screw it. I'll go see if the list is shorter next door instead." give me a pager and I'll be sure to walk around and continue to give that casino my business. A ton of players would go kill time on the slot-machines or the craps table if not for the fear of missing their name being called. And once you get them to a different game there's always the chance they'll blow off the page if they're having a good time on the other game (or running-hot or whatever). casinos shouldn't be encouraging their customers to stand around and wait and do nothing. I'm incredulous they would think this is a good idea. Now with televised-poker you have even more customers entering the casino pretty much ONLY for the poker-room. Get these customers a WAY to try out the other games in the casino (via pagers) and you've got a great way to make a nice profit off of them. I just remembered that Grand Casino in Tunica really doesn't need a pager-system because the speakers are everywhere for you to hear "Bill, your 1/2 NL seat is ready." I think this sounds silly to hear all to hear all through the whole building and that a personal-pager system would be better. But at least it allows their customers to run off and play other games while they're waiting. |

[/ QUOTE ] But it rarely works that way, most of the time the player will stay and wait for his or her table. Think of it as a time proven EV management decision, they will do what brings the highest yield. |

You know what else entices people? Having bells go off and lights flash when you win at a slot machine. Do they take that away as well?
