[ QUOTE ]

Everyone in your apartment hates you.

Also, you seem like the kind of person who would say things like "I'm within the bounds of the law..." right before I belted you.

[/ QUOTE ]

That would be incredible! So after I sue you for limiting ruining my career (as long as you got me good in the chops) I'd still keep practicing after the fact, maybe take up piano or cello or something.

And everyone would still hate you. 9am, are you NUTS? If I hear music at 9am that wakes me up, the musician is more likely going to be in a ditch than in some sort of capacity in which he can sue.

I guess I don't have to worry since everyone in the building actually has a job.

Not everyone works 9am - 5pm. My gf works 8pm - 3am, I work at home during the day playing poker.

Drums have stopped since yesterday morning

theglidd,

What you're doing wouldn't fly if I was in your building.

OP,

Glad to hear the drumming has stopped, and it's likely because the kid has lost interest, or the parents were sick of hearing it too. If it starts again though I think you have to say something, having a drum set in a building is un [censored] real.

edit: god damn it, what a waste for my 5000 post, I was planning on doing something special.

But you really wouldn't have a choice as far as I can tell.

Here's an article that speaks to the issue in NY:

http://www.tenant.net/Rights/Noise/noise2.html

In Boston, stringent noise ordinances kick in after 11p. If you want to complain about noise and expect action to be taken, you have the prove that the noise exceeds a certain decibel threshold - good luck finding an inspector to take a measurement.

http://www.cityofboston.gov/environment/noise.asp

This is all why when I lived in my former apartment, I could practice during daylight hours all I wanted, and then call the cops when my downstairs roommates (in a quieter neighborhood) would blare Kelly Clarkson at 3:00a.

theglidd,

none of this changes the fact that you'd be in a world of hurt if you refused to shut the [censored] up with your trumpet.

Have you considered that "what's courteous" might be a subset of "what's legal"?
