Re: poker pros barely beat HU bot
[ QUOTE ]
NY Times: pros vs. bot [/ QUOTE ] I hate the fact that they keep saying "barely". Humans won .5 BB/100, and on the second day, which is more important (because if bots ever played more, we'd get to know them better), the humans won 3.5 BB/100. It's "barely" only in the sense that it could be variance, and the bot-makers put themselves at a disadvantage by tipping off the humans about some of the characteristics of their bots. |

Also, this is HU limit poker. While still a very difficult problem to solve, it's peanuts compared to a ring game or no limit, from a computer science perspective.

From OP's link
[ QUOTE ] Mr. Laak, who is nicknamed the Unabomber because of his trademark hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses, would frequently gesticulate wildly at the laptop computer screen and repeatedly referred to the computer’s play as “sick” — his way of describing an unexpected or extraordinary action on the part of the machine. His supporters included Jennifer Tilly, an actress who is also a well-known professional poker player.(/quote] |
