How does this argument apply to only A2o? What you describe sounds to me like the disadvantage of being out of position with any marginal hand. Yes a lot of times you will fold the best hand, but if you have 65 and flop AJ6 or KJ and flop 876 you will often fold the best hand too.

pf you are getting 3.5:1 to call. If there is no betting after the flop, you'd call if you are no worse than a 23% dog then, if I'm not mistaken.

According to vmacostas pokerstove calc A2o is only a 60/40 dog, and I think this is enough to make up for being oop.

The argument applies best to A2o because it is the most difficult to play OoP postflop. Sure, there are situations where 67 is tough to play (A72), but these are relatively rare. With A2o almost every flop is tough, and we usually lose a little money on later streets. With A2o against a UTG raise range: we have around 40% equity preflop, and we will usually have around 40% on the flop, and will usually have around 40% on the turn. With KJo, or 67, our equity converges rapidly. The situations where it hovers around 30-40% for multiple streets (which are the tough ones to play and the source of reverse implied odds) are much rarer than the situations where it is either much lower or much higher. This allows us to make much better, and much more valuable, decisions with these types of hands.

A few things about why my arguemnt doesnt apply to 67 as much as A2o:

1) You get to see the river more to realize your full equity when you hit, because most of the time when behind you are drawing to many more outs. There are so many more straight draw possibilities with 67o. Calling the flop & turn "costs less". A pair of 6's and 7's will almost never be dominated. Therefore their positional value p0wnage of you isn't as harsh since you have a greater share of each bet going into the pot.

2) You have flops where YOU have bluffing equity and can push them off the best hand, since you have many more draws with enough equity to withstand agression. So they dont realize some of there equity.

3) You can get agressive on low flops, where you are the favorite over there range. This way you are getting a fair bit value out of their ace high hands. Although they do have more outs againt you, so while you get more bets in as the favorite, you wont win the pot quite as often...

If you have a weak ace and an ace is on the board, it's hard to get value out of much unless there are a lot of draws too. Youre pretty much limited to a turn bet and flop bet (though, excellent equity on the bets).
