I like Feeney's book better. I'm not saying a poker book should be the most entertaining thing in the world, but I did have some trouble finding much interesting in POP. Maybe that's because I read Feeney's book first. Basically they're both regular limit holdem books looked at with a psochology angle, and Feeney's just seems to work a lot better.

I more in agreement with the above comment. I know several disagree, but POP just didn't do much for my game. I keep telling myself that I'm going to re-read it now that I have oodles more playing experience, but I've got too many other darn books to get through first!

Not only did it not do much for my game, it was just damn hard to get through. I found it abstract and self-helpish. (The Secret, FTL) His new book is far superior, IMO.

Also, Feeney's book covers many of the same topics, and does so in a much more accessible manner.

Psychology of poker was a waste of time. I don't really care about the cover price, but that's an hour and a half of my life 2+2 owes me back.

I really found it helpful. I play live games. I can see how if you playing online this book probably wouldn't be much help. I read it twice (6 months in between) and would go to casinos just to study the table and try to read hands. It wasn't until the 2nd time around that things started to click. I've found this to be the case with most of the poker books I read.

POP is the book to help you get closer to self-actualization in a poker sense.

[/ QUOTE ]

No matter what form of poker you play it can surely help you to better understand yourself and your opponents.

I love 2+2 and all the books but a very few, and this is one of them.

At the time it was written, I suspect it was a great book, but if you play shorthanded NL and want to progress beyond uNL, then this book might harm you as it views on the tag/lag issues ... or rather game dynamics in particular are static on as such unhealthy as hell.

So if you play full limit hold'em, preferable B&M, then it gets 9/10

If you play internet 6-max NL hold'em or less, then 3/10

This is for the gamedynamics part of the book, which is not the entire book, but it is still a big chunck.

The rest of the book is fine.

On a different note, deacsoft, have you read the new one (worst enemy) and you think I'll like it ??

I haven't read it yet but have had some discussions about it with people who have. I've gotten different opinions. It's on the list to buy and read but unfortunately that list is getting longer and longer. I think I have about 8 new books sitting on my desk that I haven't even opened yet. I've also got a ton of stuff going on that's keeping me very busy these days.

I have read a lot of the strategy books (TOP, SSHE, HPFAP) and really wanted to read something different so I bought POP last week and am reading it right now.
I like it and find it helpful as a change of pace to the strategy books. Helps you learn about yourself and your motivations as a player and why all other types of players play like they do.
I recommend it!
