Default *theory*: open pushing from sb with atc

ok, this is my first post in the mtt forum, so hi all

just started recently playing some low buy in mtt's ($20-$50) for fun (I'm a cash game player) and found out that the skill level in these tourney's is really really low

however, my mtt game is probably not that great either, esp in the later stages where I continuously blow away a decent stack by being very aggressive, but that's bc I want to finish 1st, hasn't paid off as of yet

one of the things I'm curious about is what you guys think about open shoving any two cards from the small blind when it's folded to you to try and take the blinds and antes

I obv only do this in the later stages of the tourney when the blinds and antes are high compared to everybody's stack and I don't do it when both I and bb have a very big stack, but basically in any other situation I push any two

the reason why I don't raise ~4BB is that I find to get reraised all in a lot, I rarely just get a call, either way, my random two are usually worthless when this happens

otoh, when I push all in, I'm almost never called, esp when big blind and I have about the same stack or I can hurt his stack a lot

oh yeah, I hate to give anyone a free walk

thoughts?

(tried to search this but couldn't find anything helpful, also, couldn't find anything about this in the anthology, if a thread about this already exists, a link would be sweet!)

Typically this works if your M is under 5 or slightly above because the blinds and antes are large compared to your stack.

It also works if your BB is a nit and his stack is under and M of 5.

You'll run into hands here, but as long as you raise your good hands with your bad, it's fine.

Depends on the stack sizes and the tighntess (calling range) of the BB. If you know the stack sizes, blinds, and approximate calling range, you can figure out if pushing any two is +ev.

I think this is a good play with any Ace or pps when you have M of 8 or below.
I also think it`s a good idea to push any king, Ace or pps with an M of 5 or below.
With an M of 3,5 or below i push any two.
But never forget to consider the stacksize of your opponent before pushing.

I've been going by the SK numbers from NLTAP when I'm not sure. When blinds get high, those aren't any two, but they're more loose than I would have guessed.

My stack never gets under an M of 5, I'd already have pushed any 2, unless I just lost a big pot or something, I'm doing this always with a stack that's bigger

Example (15 players left):

Blinds-Antes(1.000/2.000 -75)
Seat 6 is the button
Total number of players : 7
UTG: ( 62,460 )
UTG+1: ( 14,657 )
MP: ( 74,933 )
CO: ( 6,515 )
Button 38,255 )
Hero: ( 49,645 )
BB: ( 38,209 )

Dealt to Hero: K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Hero is all-In [48,570]
BB: lol
MP: aces again lol
BB folds
Hero does not show cards.
Hero wins 52,095 chips

got BB to lay down p7 two orbits earlier

my guess would be that this move is +EV

for the guys that don't push this, are you folding or are you raising in this spot? if you're folding, what would you need to raise? assume bb is playing tag and hasn't gotten out of line

discuss

I don't have the book, but I'd guess K2o in your example is within the SK push number (particularly given the antes).

One of the catches to this, personally, is that by this level I'm open raising 3-5 times an orbit.

Read the thread about playing back against aggressive opponents. Should explain more, and asking there is fairly on topic :P.
