Default Ruling: All In Mucks PF, Action Pending

10/20 Blinds. UTG calls. UTG+1 calls. Folds around to Button who raises all-in for 500. SB folds. BB folds. Button now mucks thinking he's won the pot, but UTG & UTG+1 are still left to act. Dealer calls floor over for ruling. What should it be? Does it matter if this is a cash game or a tournament?

exactly why i dont give up my hand until the pot is pushed. if either UTG or UTG+1 wants to call or re-raise they will play for the entire pot.

If button's hand is mixed into the muck, and dealer shouldn't be doing that, then I would say it is gone forever.

If this a normal circumstance, and dealer let button's two cards sit separately from the muck, then I do believe floor would retrieve them and allow button to stay in the pot.

"2. Cards thrown into the muck may be ruled dead. However, a hand that is clearly identifiable may be retrieved and ruled live at management’s discretion if doing so is in the best interest of the game. An extra effort should be made to rule a hand retrievable if it was folded as a result of incorrect information given to the player."

I don't think it's in "the best interest of the game" to allow button's two clearly identifiable cards to be declared dead and his all-in money to be dead money.

I thought most people would agree that if the Button's cards are identifiable, then they can be retrieved and action continued. Does this include having the Button write down what cards he had, and having the Floor check the muck for those two cards?

And, if the cards are not retrievable, then is his money committed to the pot? If the floor rules that is the case, then an interesting (strategic) question would be what should UTG now do?

If UTG /or UTG+1 is very greedy they should be able to re-raise to isolate BTN who has no cards... LOL.
