prkp,

Here's one thing I'm curious about that just plain doesn't add up for me.

dealer pay based on $24/down rate: "$267.28 for the day"

WSOP dealing: "We depend on the WSOP to make up for the rest of the year to keep us all fed till January. This 45 days of hard work is atleast 2/3 of most of our incomes."

Working 6 out of every 7 days during those 45 days, that adds up to $10k for the 45 days. Something doesn't seem right here.

[/ QUOTE ]
Im not sure exactly what you are asking here. Are you going by a post that I made an example of a normal day of dealing while they were on an "up/down" rotation? and what doesnt make sense? the numbers used or days worked or what? I really would like to answer the question if I could and im not trying to come across as a smart ass lol

[/ QUOTE ]

if 10k is 2/3rds of your income then you make a total of 15k/year. you can't travel constantly, cover your own expenses, and live on 15k/year. so something doesn't add up. correct me if i'm wrong, but this seems to be diablo's point.

[/ QUOTE ]

Maybe saying 2/3 was a bit much, maybe 1/3? I say that because the WSOP is the largest event of the year, the next is the WPO in january. Other than that, the travelling dealer"s work season is feb, mar, apr, may and sept. there are some very small events in oct and nov but unless you live in reno, they are not worth working because your expenses are more than you take home. those other months are only 10-12 day events and after expenses, dealers usually take home about 2500 (if they dont gamble). So thats why I said what I did and I can see how it could be misunderstood.

p,

"On a normal day.... This is called an "up/down" rotation and it was that way alot durring the week... Now lets imagine that this dealer works his full 8 hour shift... Now we will use the amount of $24... $267.28 for the day. It works out to be $33 and change/hour..."

Thank you for providing the detailed explanation. Using the numbers you provided, dealers dealing a typical 8-hour day during the WSOP would be making $33/hr at a $24/down rate and about $40/hr at a $30/down rate.

This is the type of information players need when giving feedback to Harrah's regarding dealer compensation as well as making their own decisions regarding personal tipping amounts.

So, a followup question. If tip amounts work out to be what you expect and they stay the same for next year, do you think most of the good dealers will return next year to work the WSOP?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes they will most likely come back. also there are dealers that have worked this event every year now for 20 + years

[/ QUOTE ]

$33 an hour for a typical work year of 2,000 hours is about 70k per year plus free food and rooms in fancy casino resorts.....

[/ QUOTE ]
Where do we get free rooms and food? Yes this year harrahs provided food to us which was way cool but there are only about 2 stops on the road that have an employee dining room that is close enough for us to get to on our breaks and only 2 places that provide rooms. The travelling dealer must pay for all expenses to and from events (there are some UK events that help out with that but only a few of us are hired to go), We must pay for all food, some places give us and employee discount but that is very rare. We must Pay for all rooming expenses, There are 2 places I know of that cover your room and there are some places that the local hotels will give you a discount and as for WSOP here in vegas and on the road, we are never allowed to stay on property unless you are upper mngmnt.
This is only stating some facts that you obv didnt know but Im sure you all will take it as me complaining lol

[/ QUOTE ]

You've done nothing but complain this entire thread. Usually it takes the form of "I'm happy with what I made this year, BUT WHINE WHINE COMPLAIN BITCH BITCH JESUS FERGUSON OMG WTF BBQ."

Prime example here: "Yes, Harrah's paid for our food, BUT OTHER PLACES DON'T AND WE HAVE TO WALK A LONG WAY TO THE BUFFET!! WAH WAH WAH POOR ME DEALING CARDZ!"

It's really quite tiresome.

Do you actually have anything usefull to add to this or do you just like to twist my words and attack me? come on now, who is the childish bitcher here? The best part of all your attacks is that you make YOURSELF look like an idiot without anyone else helping you out.

he IS right though. I have read this board for the last 4 wsops. every single time a dealer came and whined about how undertipped they were within a week. Everytime they tell us some % they got, leave out some % of times to make it worse than it is. Finally, on further investigation we all realize that the dealer made a lot and that all this whining was retarded and was a huge turnoff for many of us. So while he said what he did poorly, the idea was basically correct.

After reading this thread, I'm pissed I left $80 for a $3700 score. Never tipping after a tournament cash again.

I've come to the same conclusion, although it seems that in AC they don't withhold tips if I've understood it correctly. So I guess if I win in AC, I should tip a bit, right?

I am going right on tipping like I always did, the minimum on each pot, a buck, unless it is a double up pot and then I will tip two. It is not the individual dealer's fault that the system is set up as it is.

It is a hard job being a dealer, kind of a second class citizen at the table, expected to shut up and deal.

I have this recurring nightmare. I die and go see St. Peter. He says I must spent eternity in hell as a poker dealer to a table full of tilted, drunk fools.

To me, the lowest form of sucker is anyone who abuses the dealers or blames them for their bad luck. Badmouthing, throwing cards, etc. I felt very strongly about this, but I could never believe that the Binions, who were so tough, would allow all the abuse of the dealers. Moss, Bonnetti, and Ungar were known for their rude behavior. It is the casinos fault if the players are allowed to act like creeps.
I just read a story about Stu Ungar spitting in a dealers face. Benny Binion was going to throw him out of the World Series but Jack convinced him to let him play.

What does this have to do with tipping in a tournament where the House has taken out for "staff"?
