Re: $60 L4 AK
Why would you check behind a) in a SNG, b) facing a calling station, c) both??? Bad. No.
I refuse to even analyze the rest of the hand out of punishment to you. Edit: grrrr, ok, when a CS leads small on the river like that, he very often has a 9 or 4. Yes you may get some value from another ace. But just as likely if not more you're boned. IE - raise is worthless. |

Board is not that drawy and I want to get some value from small/middle pocket pairs. PLUS IN A SNG ICON VIDEO, ICON HAD SIMILAR HAND AND SAID HE WOULD HAVE CHECKED BEHIND ON FLOP (IF HE HIT IT). So I wanted to try and be like an icon. Also, if the turn card is a J/Q/K villian can catch a piece and then will donate a big chunk of his chips. On the river, i figured 55-88 or Ax, and after donking a couple of streets I for sure wanted some value. |

Re: $60 L4 AK
Was he playing against a 42/8 in the SNG icon vid? I agree checking behind isn't terrible (except that every single time I do it it blows up in my face), but not here. Heart draw + calling station + chance of stacking if he has an ace = bet every time to me. Also I cbet almost everytime so it doesn't always mean I have an ace. But I wouldn't expect a guy like this to notice that.
Now as to the river, I don't think this guy leads out w/o at least an ace. And the other two options are bad for you. So after I pussy-footed around and played pattycake with the guy for two streets, I would just call. |

Re: $60 L4 AK
Against a random donk you want to bet this flop 100% of the time. Stack all of his weaker aces.

Re: $60 L4 AK
Agree w/ suzzer and probably anyone else esp vs this type of player. Bet flop but as played I think river is a flat and you can't really do anything else. I'd almost prefer a fold to a raise there.

Re: $60 L4 AK
I bet the flop since there's a heart draw. I c-bet a lot so I just go w/ it. No draws at all I'll check. As played just check river.

Re: $60 L4 AK
I don't know, 2 hearts looks to me like it's a pretty drawy board. Checking behind and giving someone a free card isn't always bad, I agree, and it's frustrating to not get any value for TPTK but this is a bad board for checking behind--it's not a strong enough hand to slowplay, and you have only the other K's and A's to improve your hand, which isn't likely. Bet it 100% of the time IMO. Giving free cards on boards like this tends to be a recipe for disaster. On the river I just call, since I'm only beating 55+ and a lower Ax.
