Re: SSL settle this suited broadway preflop stuff for me
QJs QTs always raise CO, JTs limp CO.
QJs QTs JTs always complete SB. Rubberloon's own private lunacy. |

Re: SSL settle this suited broadway preflop stuff for me
fiw, JTs is a better hand than QTs, so it would be very strange to raise QTs, but limp JTs. I do the exact opposite, usually.

You're right, {Honeybadger and Count both} BUT I did say my "own private lunacy."

Re: SSL settle this suited broadway preflop stuff for me
Raising is the better play from a long term equity (and therefore profitability) standpoint.
Limping behind is lower variance, and places an inexperienced player in fewer thin postflop situations. If I'm correct on those two statements (and I'm just saying that off the top of my head, I've never attempted to prove if either is mathematically correct), then I can see the logic behind limping being a standard micro play & raising being standard for small stakes. I also think it bears addressing that a limper in a microstakes game is generally much more likely to hold a hand that dominates these suited broadways than one in a small stakes (or higher) game. Generally I tend to agree with Xhad on this one...I don't think it makes much of a difference either way. I generally raise them, FWIW, unless it's one limper & that limper is very passive & not very loose. |

Re: SSL settle this suited broadway preflop stuff for me
SSH recommends raising QJs and JTs from late position, but just calling with QTs at both their loose and tight tables.
I generally don’t raise QTs, probably because of advice in books like SSH. I probably would in a blind steal (when was the last time that happened?), a short-handed situation, or if my raises were getting too much respect. My guess is this is a marginal situation in a loose game that doesn’t make that much difference in the long run. Biggest benefit I can see it to table image. Not sure about tighter games with more observant opponents. Maybe QTs from late is a good play to mix it up. |

Re: SSL settle this suited broadway preflop stuff for me
It depends.
What is the limping range of the players ahead of you? (I'm still trying to figure out how I want to play against people who over-limp with AA/KK/AK.) Will the button just call with A8s if you call but three-ball it if you raise? (These players exist and annoy me.) How will raising this hand and showing it down affect my table image? (It can be a non-negligible factor in a small-stakes game.) I probably lean toward calling 90% of the time and occasionally raising. |
