Re: Why do I always screw up the 1st 4 holes? Then play the rest even.
[ QUOTE ]
The top-tier Niklaus course here has a 510 DOWNHILL par 5 as it's first hole (from the back tees)...I generally drive >320 so with the huge downhill tiers I had a wedge in...so don't knock 500yrd starting holes. [/ QUOTE ] I don't get it. If you're hitting wedge into a par 5 in two that's a pretty bad hole imo. |

Re: Why do I always screw up the 1st 4 holes? Then play the rest even.
[ QUOTE ]
Let us not forget the 500 yard par-5 that follows. Apparently ghostface plays at an executive course. OP, I have first tee anxiety too, to varying degrees. Don't know what to say but to try to improve your mindset. My first hole scoring average is probably my worst, I'm just trying to get into a comfort zone and I generally don't settle in until the 3rd or 4th hole. Work on putting less pressure on yourself to start well (a lot of people seem to have the opposite problem, which is finishing well, which sucks as bad or worse). [/ QUOTE ] Ive been playing since ive been 5. Went to college for golf. I used to be real low but being older now and not playing 36 a day ive certainly slipped. I dont have 1st tee anxiety. Its definetly mental. My swing doesn't start til the 5th hole its so weird I can't explain. Very seldom am I even after 5 holes. |

Because you are a hustler OP, everybody knows that in a nassau you want to build the bets early so you can clear the table at the end

Re: Why do I always screw up the 1st 4 holes? Then play the rest even.
Pretend you're 5 over when teeing off?
It seems like you allow yourself to play your best when you don't have the pressure of shooting a super low score hanging over your head. So when you're 5 over after 5, you're like, "[censored] it", and you just start playing golf. One thing I used to do to try and get myself in the mindset of just playing each shot as it comes was to play the course out of order. I could do this because I worked there so you may have some trouble making this happen as a regular paying customer, but it could help you out. |

I've done the same--started 5 over after 5, said "screw this, this score isn't going to count" and shot 78. Started 2 under after 2, the pressure built to play an all time best round, and shot 85. |
