One of the main streets in Phoenix is called Indian School Road. I have an over/under bet with a friend as to what year it will be determined politically incorrect and changed. It's set at 2020 and I have the under.

Tup - Would surprise me if you won that bet.

Are they also going to change the name of Indiana as well as Indianapolis (and another town called Indianola)?

In Vero Beach, Florida I was living in Indian River County not coincidentally right along the Indian River.

You're probably right but you also live in the South, where people want to fly the confederate flag and stuff, so political correctness is probably a little harder to come by. Phoenix - like Vegas - is full of transplants from other places, seemingly a lot from the Midwest, so being PC and living in your three bedroom house in a cul-de-sac with 7 foot high brick fences and never interacting with your neighbors is kinda the way out here.

Plus, Phoenix is ringed by reservations and Indian casinos - Scottsdale, Phoenix, and other cities would be WAY bigger if they didn't have that artificial barrier. So there is an "Indian sensitivity factor" in play. Hell, several years ago the governor renamed the second most popular landmark in Phoenix just cuz she thought it was offensive to Indians - in keeping with the white man dictating things, it was some white historians ~30 years ago that determined that the word "squaw" was offensive in SOME Indian cultures a long time ago, thus renaming Squaw Peak was a "must" because clearly the Indians were offended, when they totally weren't and really didn't give a crap. On the plus side, I've never heard anyone call it by its new name, even after all these years. Hopefully they'll pull a Cape Canaveral and change it back but probably not.

Thus concludes your Phoenix history/politics lesson. Watch your step on the way out.

I think I would make a good addition to the travel forum mod team because:[*]I travel a lot.[*]I spend half the day grinding and reading 2+2.[*]My schedule is essentially the opposite of Nation's, so together we have most of the day covered.[*]This obvious spam post has been up for four days.[*]Um, I just really like the forum.
