Pocket AA early...push on not
I was in a $2.00 buy in on Absolute when the following occured.
Two limpers around to me in the BB with pocket AA. I raise 5xbb. Get one caller. The flop comes KQ4 rainbow so I shove with my last 1000 and get called (he covers me). Someone makes the comment that my all in was stupid because.."only a hand that beats you would call." I don't believe this to be the case (especially at this level). Anyway is the observers comment correct? I'll post the results after a few of your opinions. Thanks in advance for your help. |

Re: Pocket AA early...push on not
We can't comment without knowing stack sizes and how big the BB was.

sorry new and still learning.
Blinds were 40/80 and my stack was about 1500 at the beginning of the hand and the villain was over 2000. thanks again |

Re: Pocket AA early...push on not
i would guess in a $2 tourney you bet is not that bad cause you would get callers from persons with weaker hands.

Re: Pocket AA early...push on not
So the pot is 920 on the flop right? Your push is fine, you'll get called by worse hands at this level. If villain is aggressive though, I like a checkraise better.

Re: Pocket AA early...push on not
Push is fine regardless of buyin. There was already about 900 in the pot, so you want to get your money in the middle with AA. If villian has KQ/KK/QQ/44 so be it.
Checking the flop isn't as likely to work since you raised preflop. You can either make a 1/2-pot bet here and bet rest on turn, or push right now. You're getting called by AK, KJ, maybe some Qs too who put you on a middle pair or bluff (i.e. plenty of hands that don't beat you). Your play was fine, don't sweat the comment made at the table. |

Re: Pocket AA early...push on not
I'd probably just shove hands like AK PF, with 280 in already and only 1420 behind. With aces I'm fine with making a smaller raise and shoving the flop, but I don't really see any benefit in not shoving the flop.

Re: Pocket AA early...push on not
In a $2.00 buy in people call with absolute crap, I would probably have pushed too because no one at this level is getting away from top pair, and probably not getting a way from something like AQ, QJ or JJ, you are probably ahead of his range and I would do the same. If he has KQ or slowplayed a big pp thats unfortuante but by making those moves he will lose in the long run.
