Re: Running bad...how to stop it?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Posting this in the Probability forum leads me to believe that OP is having a laugh. Since this is a Probability forum, I feel compelled to say that the topic has absolutely nothing to do with probability and is more to do with psychology. With that said, I would give you this advice: If you feel that your usual game is being compromised by these negative feelings, you might want to consider taking some time away from poker. However, if you are unaffected by your perceived lack of luck, then continue to play as usual and let the "long run" deal with your problems. [/ QUOTE ] It is about probability, you just need to think about it. Running bad, and trying to stop it. That is, lets assume I stop playing for a while, yet my streak would have continued if I kept playing. Then I start playing again after 2 weeks, would it continue? That to me is about probability. As for the other part, I agree. [/ QUOTE ] P(bad streak continues if you keep playing) = P(bad streak continues when you pick up in 2 weeks if you take 2 weeks off) That is, with all other things being equal. Your mindset may not be equal if you keep playing through a rut vs. playing after a refreshing 2 weeks off. So in that case, the probability may change a little, if say you start playing better after your break. But it's not going to have any effect on how you "run." So basically, yeah, I think this is a psychology question too. |

Re: Running bad...how to stop it?
The only way to be 100% sure of stopping it (running bad) is to quit poker.

It's like saying what could happen if I didn't go to work for a week and then decided to wear a pink tie? You may find 5K dumped in the street or get killed. But you can be sure of one thing, that is taht you will experience a great amount of sick hands no matter what you do, so maybe you can cheat on destiny for a while and experience different luck... It happened a lot to me that I dropped a level, or went up during a bad run and suddenly ran very good, or changin sites, etc... But maybe you where going to have even much better luck when you were before, no one knows... You just have to play poker and never forget you will run very bad sometimes... and that is very likely that you'll get pissed off, so it is very important that either you stop playing if you are not emotionally stable about the game because thats much worse than runing bad. |

Re: Running bad...how to stop it?
I like to go to a church and pray to a religion I don't even believe in. This helps me get over my bad streaks.
Another good way is to take a bath is garlic and tomato sauce. You may smell bad for a few days but the cards will run hot for many more. Good luck! |
