Default Flatter payout in MTT\'s

This topic has been floated on another board I frequent that does not get the amount of traffic as 2+2. I was hoping to get more input so I am posting this here. What is the general feeling of creating a flatter payout in MTT play. I created a payout structure based on last night's 25.00 + 2.50 25K gaurantee on PS. There were 1431 entries for a total prize pool of $35,775. The original prize distibution is on PS for all to see. Here's an alternative:

1 1431.00 0.04
2 1395.23 0.039
3 1359.45 0.038

Some interesting observations: Only 5% of all player's get paid v. 12%. First place is substantially less 1431 v. 7616. 72nd place pays more than 10th 223 v 214. 10th makes substantially more than 10th 1,037 v 214.

terrible... most of your $ev is BECAUSE of the steep structure rewarding high finishes... and the many prizes is what keeps the fish playing (along with the high possible payday)

Seriously, you want first to make only $400 more than 10th? That sounds unbearably lame.

I thought it was making money! I really think that only about 5% of all player's benefit from the top heavy payout structure. 95% of player's would benefit from a flatter payout. I have no evidence of this other than just browsing OTR and observing the very low percentage of player's that actually show a profit playing MTT's. I do know that player's such as aBOVebeLOW should not want a structure like this.

I'm not really advocating this, I'm just interested in argument's either for or against it.

The current structure does not reward high finishes unless you only consider 1-3 to be a high finish. Finishing 10th of 1400 entries seems high to me. I have finished deep in many tournements and I've won a few and I've finished outside the real money ALOT.

I can say for sure that a flip of a coin either going your way at a key time or not going your way consistantly at key times is the difference between making alot of money or breaking even.

If the majority of people preferred such a flat payout then tournaments would be chopped at a full final table way more often.

The bottom line is that if tournaments didn't have a steep payout they'd be booooooring. Who wants to make the final table and not care about winning because the winner only gets a few bucks more than 4th?

I agree it is much more exciting at a chance to win 7600 than 1400 -- certainly a negative.
