I used to drink lots of Dr. Pepper and Cherry-Coke as a kid.
I absolutely never even considered them to taste anything alike. I was surprised that one person in this thread thought so as I had never heard that before. Then I was REALLY surprised that so many people here agreed with that. I must be weird or something because these are just completely different tastes to my sophisticated soft-drink palate. Are there any people around here who absolutely can not stand to drink either one? And I mean to the degree that it practically makes you gag? My GF isn't a big soda fan but she can drink coke, pepsi, sprite, etc okay as well as the diet versions. But when it comes to Root Beer and Dr. Pepper she has tried them both and swears she never will again. To her they are the most disgusting tasting things she's ever had and she's amazed that ANYONE can drink that stuff. It's not like she's allergic to sugar or something. It's just something about both of those drinks that is so terrible to her that obviously is not the same for most people. |

Dr. Pepper isn't a cherry-flavored cola. It is primarily a black cherry soda. More like this ![]() than this ![]() |

[ QUOTE ] Just to be clear, whose customers are getting upset about this? I can't imagine the actual people buying the drinks gift a crap who distributes it. Do you mean the restaurants and other vendors? I don't really know why they'd care either. Maybe because they deal with coke for everything else and then just have to deal with Pepsi for one product? [/ QUOTE ] So these folks, right? [/ QUOTE ] Right. The only branch of business in which the consumer is a direct customer is in vending machine sales. Any other time, it's a retailer or restaurant. I would say it would be highly unlikely for a customer to get all Coke products from us, and then turn around to just order Dr. Pepper from Pepsi. There are minimum order requirements that would make this difficult, especially considering the shelf life of carbonated beverages (the customer has to get 15 cases of Dr. P at a time to make an order, then half of them go out-of-date before they can be sold). I would imagine that if a business was that dead set on getting Dr. Pepper in an area with Pepsi rights, they would switch to Pepsi exclusively. |
