Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
From the information I have gathered through forum/internet searches, it appears that both the Beau Rivage and IP charge $6 per half-hour for timed rake, including the small stakes games that I play.
Paying $12 per hour in rake for $1/$2NL seems quite high, but I would like to hear some opinions from the 2+2 experts. How bad is this rake? Also, as a secondary point of interest, please share any opinions you might have comparing the two properties and poker rooms. Thanks, Andrew |

Re: Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
I went to Beau Rivage over Easter. I didn't know they time charged, so I was a little confused at first when the dealer asked me for 6 bucks.
I was playing 1/2NL and while the time charge isn't my personal choice, the people there apparently hated their money. They couldn't donk it off fast enough. This was my first time ever playing poker in a casino and I still made over $250 in 4 hours. |

Re: Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
$6/per half hour is absurd for 1/2. I live 15 minutes from the Beau and haven't played once. I used to play 40-60 hours/month at the Grand Biloxi when they had a $3 max rake. I won't pay more.

Re: Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
I recently played 1-2 NL at the IP for the first time. It was also my first time playing a table with a time charge. While I didn't like it and would prefer a raked game, I found a couple of unexpected and interesting side effects.
One was that there was a huge amount of peer pressure to keep the game moving. I never saw a lot of time wasted by stare-downs and players trying to decide what to do. When there was indecision, it was not at all unusual for another player to tell the miscreant that he was wasting everyone's money because of the time charge. The second thing I noted, and it may not have been related very much to the time charge, is that the dealer's really moved the game along. Perhaps they simply understand the fundamental concept, which is missed by many dealers, that every hand dealt is an opportunity for a toke--and I saw some pretty good tokes in this game. I would not be surprised if these guys were cranking out nearly twice the hands per hour that I'm accustomed to seeing at other places. |

Re: Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
It is a horrible rake but at least there is an uncapped buy-in at the Beau, which makes the game nearly always play deeper than a normal 1/2.
At Harrah's New Orleans, where I'm at, it's more problamatic, as the max buy in is $200 or half the big stack, so the games take a while to get sufficiently deep. Short or deep, though, the games are beatbale. Still, it's painful to realize that nearly $200 an hour comes off the table when you add tokes and the jackpot drop to the equation. |

Re: Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
WTF? There is a jackpot drop in addition to time? Is this just Harrahs in NO, or the IP and Beau in Biloxi too?

[/ QUOTE ] I like the time rake over the pot rake. It costs me $12 an hour for seat charge. I i drag three pots in an hour at a $5 max rake then i am better off in a $12 time rake. Here is the thing on the time rake - for a winning player it is a better system - the losers pay the same rake as the winners. For a losing player or someone who sits and waits for Aces, the time rake would not be so good as they are paying the rake despite not dragging pots. If the pot is raked, only the winners pay the rake. As far as $200/hr coming off the table - how is this different from a pot rake? $5 rake per hand 30 hands, is $150 an hour vs. $12 x 10 seats which is $120. The time rake also has the effect of turning the table over and bringing new blood into the game. People will get up rather than pay the next $6 which opens up the seat for a new player who may be a fish. I think the reason people don't really like it is psycological (sp?). At the end of the day i figure i played 8 hours i can calculate that i paid $96 dollars in rake. Well if you dragged 19 pots in those 8 hours you would have paid $95 rake in a $5 max pot rake. If you drag less than 19 pots in 8 hours, you probably were going broke several times anyway. |

Re: Biloxi Beau Rivage & IP Time Charge Question
If you're a 10/5 online tighty that plays 3 hands a day time charge isn't your best deal.
I play a lot of hands so it’s a good deal for me. Last week I played a 5 hour session paid $60 in time charge rake. I estimate I drug 15 pots that would have been at $4 or $5 rake and several more blind and limper steals that would have been raked 1 to 3 dollars. My estimated savings +-$35. I never tracked this but I will next trip. GS |
