I almost have enough money to make this enormous jump in stakes with a reasonable amount of comfort (300 BB). I was wondering what differences some of you guys have noticed in the levels. How big of a jump is it in difficulty? Can anyone give me any tips?
Thanks. |

I don't play either, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the two aren't that different.

there are a number of people who are 'micro-pros' who multitable .5/1 at the scale of 8-10 tables.
I think there is a little more aggression, and a little less passive limping, especially preflop. Another 'real' difference is the small blind. Since the SB-BB is 0.25/0.5 in .5/1 vs. 0.1/0.25 in .25/.50 it drastically changes the range of hands you should call with, sicne it is a smaller bet in relation to the pot, and compared to what you have already put in. |

Can anyone give me any tips? [/ QUOTE ] If you played a winning game at .25/.5, keep doing what you're doing when you play .5/1. So many people fail when they jump levels when they assume that the new level is a whole new world than what they're used to. Just play your game and adjust to specific situations as needed. |

I recently (3500 hands) made the transition and it's not all that different - The TAGs are a bit more AG and it's taken me a while to interpret what betting, raising, c/r etc. means here. I was surprised to see so many really bad players on .5/1 though and it seems to be more maniacs in .5/1 than I met at .25/.5 (at least at stars). It's a daily occurence when someone spills 50$ over an hour or so.
Don't change your game, it works here also. ETA: A couple of things I noticed but could be because of small sample size is: A) c/r being replaced by donking. At .25/.5 check raising the preflop raiser was the rave both with a hand and as a semibluff. At .5/1 I haven't seen that much but people are donking the flop instead. Some go nuts with this and will lead the flop with anything. This can be because the TAGs are a bit tighter post flop here. B) Limping big hands. I've never seen so much limping of AA, AK, KK, QQ etc. from all positions. It's quite funny to watch AK being cracked by 72 in the blind hitting 2 pair on 72A flop and capping war runs until the river. Chat exchange afterwards is also amusing. |

What do you do in cold air? Dress appropriately.
What do you do in hot air? Dress appropriately. What do you do when the 2 collide? Have some terbulance. $.5/1 is the terbulance with an odd mish mash of opponent styles, IMO. Dress appropriately. <font color="white">Most vague advice ever?</font> |

Started plying online again at stars and 0.25-0.50 seems a fair bit softer than 0.5-1 IMO.

You will be earning FPPs way faster if you are playing on stars.
I can't imagine people are living off .5/1... anybody here actually do this or know somebody who does/has? |

[/ QUOTE ] I have just seen a couple of folks playing a great number of tables at once. No way to tell if they are micro-'pros' or not. |
