Its not a big raise, but am I bleeding money if I keep calling them? am I ahead often enough to call? how often is this air, etc.

I would reraise this in your position to see how serious his hand is. 88 is strong, and you have position on him. It's one of two things - he has a weak hand and he folds or tentatively calls, or he minraised a monster looking for action and will likely push. Also, if you reraise him pre-flop and he stays in the hand, he is unlikely to check-raise on the flop with how aggressive you have been, unless he has a big hand, in which case you can safely fold.

Re-raise preflop. Makes the hand easier to play. As played, fold.
