live 2-5NL how often to play KQ out of the blinds to a raise?
This seems to happen to me frequently. 3 or 4 players limp, a late position player makes it 20-25 to go, I look at KQ in the blind (I don't think sb or bb really makes difference....does it?), what do I do? I really hate playing this hand OOP to a raise, so I usually just fold, knowing the only flop I really want to see is when I make the nuts. However, if there is a good chance several of the limpers will call, my odds are not too bad, 4-1 or so, tempting me to call. How do you guys play this hand? Do you play J10 differently given similar situation?

depending on the vilain I can 3 bet. Most of the time I fold. I don't think a call can be good.

Never call. Position is bad + reverse implied odds make a call very unattractive.

I fold both KQ and JT in this situation, with some annoyance but no hesitation.
Great screenname, btw, GOB. |

Re: live 2-5NL how often to play KQ out of the blinds to a raise?
I'm no pro, but I play a good deal of 2-5NL and I occasionally make this call with KQs. The times that I reraise have little to do with the fact that I have KQ and more to do with the fact that I'm isolating a bad player or squeezing a LAG who is punishing limpers.
If the late position player can have a wide range of hands because he is aggressive and often raises limped pots preflop, you could just as easily be dominating him as he could be you. Play carefully with one pair flops, but against these types of low limit players you can normally tell if they are willing to make big bets with just a hand like QJ, or if you're always beat when they bet, which will help you decide how to play post-flop. Going against the crowd usually means I'm wrong, but if you play carefully, I think there is value in that hand even OOP. |

Re: live 2-5NL how often to play KQ out of the blinds to a raise?
Thanks, I usually end up folding annoyed that I'm not on the button. If I do call it is with great implied odds and a few callers behind me. Then if I don't flop the nuts I proceed with caution. I really hate playing out of position, especially with KQ. I do agree with repopping it occassionally, though that could be said for any two against some opponents.

"and I occasionally make this call with KQs"
being suited sucks me right in...I pitch TJo and QKo so easily but when they are sooooted I want to see flops so bad...Damn I am a fish |

Re: live 2-5NL how often to play KQ out of the blinds to a raise?
i think saying you should never call with this hand is horrible. in the live games i play KQ can easily dominate a late position pf raiser. of course it can get you in to trouble too, but thats where you have to learn to play poker...
make your decision based on your read of the pre flop raiser. if he is very tight, of course fold. but if not KQ is eminiently playable. |
