Default Heads-up in $58 satellite on Stars

$58 satellite to the Manila qualifier (about $550 buyin). Winner gets entry to the tournament, runner-up gets his money back. Villain is solid and has made some apparently tough laydowns.

I would bet here, the pot contains a significant amount of chips, and he cant take you off your hand with a cr because your ~12 outs are enough to reraise all-in.
If you check behind and dont improve you will often have to fold to a bet.

This really depends on the dynamics prior to this hand....
Just think to yourself how often does he check raise...
What hands does he check raise with...
Is leading flop better than checking behind....
If I do check behind and a non diamond none Ace turn comes and he bets will I raise?
I personally like the check behind only because if he does check raise on the flop you have to call or push with a draw on a huge bubble
Second if you check behind you control the pot size better and prob will still be able to get most of your stack in on turn and river if he has a hand and you hit....
It's a very strong hand Headsup...but if you feel you're the better player I feel check behind is stronger just because it reduces your variance on the hand while not really effecting your equity....

Well, you are playing for the seat, and you need to get chips, so I would bet/3bet all-in here.

If he check raises, you are most likely up against a Q or J with a non-ace kicker (I would think most players might re-raise AQ/AJ preflop). 3-betting AI might get him to fold a weaker hand like JT, etc. and if you are called, you have as many as 12 outs to catch up.

Betting 800, then 3-betting AI if check raised gives you some fold equity on your re-raise.

If you bet 800, then he calls, I would plan on slowing down if he checks the turn to us and we don't improve.

Definitely bet - Illini is right on. You are not folding this hand, given the PF action and stacks. Discuss a chop - with such a huge disparity between 1st and 2nd, it's a good idea.

I don't really mind that line I just think stack sizes make it awkward...
If you bet 800...he raises to 2400 then there is 4400 in the pot and you have like 8500 behind...

Are you saying we should then go allin, overbetting the pot by 2-1 which obv smacks of a draw...
I think you're too deep for this line especially if villian is good and OP seems to think so...

Well, perhaps you lead for a 1000, but I just don't see getting away from this hand. If you check behind and the [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] falls, you are unlikely to be paid off, unless he has a monster. If you lead, your hand is disguised, and you will wind putting your opponent to a tough decision.

why not make a smaller bet, maybe 400, so that he may fold to a 3-bet?

also, funny that some people are mentioning payout structure as something that would affect HU play.

thanks everyone for the high quality advice.
For the results:
I bet 600 (half pot), villain raised to 2,000, I instapushed and he called showing KK, which held up.
